The Referee's give up their time to officiate our games. Their contribution to Youth football is without question significant. The league as well as the F.A. will not tolerate poor conduct towards referee's and considers this paramount to the enjoyment of youth soccer by all. It is essential for the developement of our players that the Referee's decisions are considered final despite what may appear on television by managers, players and pundits, Good practice begins at U7 and developes habbits that run on through the whole of youth football.

Referee Development

The National Game Strategy

The FA has a national game strategy which will be running from 2008-2012.
What does this mean for Referees?

The FA has made the following targets:

Have a new skilled workforce – Already in place through Referee Development Officer
Recruit 8,000 new Referees across the Nation
Retain 28,545 Referees

To achieve this in Devon we have to make our own Plans on how we think we can recruit and retain.
These ideas have been put forward through Consultation events across the county.

Ideas for Recruitment:

Offer better incentive packages
Clubs provide a referee when they affiliate to a league
Make the courses more interactive

Ideas for Retention:

Clamp down on player discipline, maybe by deducting points from teams involved
Make the fines higher for Referee Abuse charges
Pay Referees more money
Offer Referees better facilities

If you have any ideas that you feel may have a positive effect on refereeing in the County, do not hesitate to forward them to me.
